Brendan Rodgers has provided updates on Alistair Johnston's fitness and Greg Taylor's contract situation, settling nerves among Celtic supporters.
Addressing speculation about Johnston, Rodgers clarified that while there’s talk of a new deal, no formal discussions have taken place yet. The right-back, who has been essential this season, particularly in matches like the 3-0 win against St. Mirren and the Glasgow derby, is highly valued by the club. Rodgers dismissed any immediate concerns about Johnston’s injury, highlighting that it was a pre-existing issue managed well by Canada's setup during the international break.
"Nothing that I’m aware of,” Rodgers stated regarding Johnston’s new deal. “He’s got three and a half years left and he’s playing ever so well. We want him here as long as possible."
On the fitness front, the manager confirmed Johnston is good to go for the upcoming Hearts game after training well with the squad. Similarly, Cameron Carter-Vickers, who had been in a moon boot post-Glasgow Derby, is also ready for the matches ahead.
Meanwhile, Rodgers emphasized that securing Greg Taylor's future at the club is a top priority. The left-back, whose contract expires next summer, has been instrumental in Celtic's recent successes and is highly regarded by the manager.
"No update," Rodgers admitted regarding Taylor's contract talks. "I really hope we can get something organised because he's a fantastic player for us. He makes that position work how we want it to look, and he's first class."
Rodgers praised Taylor's technical skills and resilience on the field, stressing his importance to the team. The manager is optimistic that an agreement will be reached soon to keep Taylor at the club.
As transfer discussions continue and players recover from international duties, these updates suggest a positive outlook for Celtic’s upcoming fixtures.
