Cameron Carter-Vickers to Miss St Johnstone Game, a Doubt for Dortmund

Published on 24th September, 2024

Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to miss the St Johnstone game (28th September 2024, 17:45), and a doubt for Dortmund (1st October 2024, 20:00) according to newspaper reports.

After victory over Falkirk, Rodgers said: “Cam has been suffering a wee bit with his metatarsal, below his big toe. We gave it a little bit of a period earlier on, a few weeks back, and he was okay.

“He's got a little bit sore, obviously playing back-to-back games, which is why we've given him today free. So, we'll just assess that and see how that is later in the week."

In a different interview, he had the below to say.

"Cam is injured so he wouldn’t have played anyway. We’ve been nursing him on a foot problem that he’s had for a little while, and the same with Ali [Johnston].

“Ali, he had an injection to calm down some inflammation he’s had, so he wouldn’t have been available today either. So those two enforced.

“Just for today. Ali will start training with the team and then be ready. And Cam we will just have to wait and see.

“He’s had an issue with his foot, and he’s been getting some injections for that. And we felt that the game during the week there, he is just so brave and so courageous, he wants to play and put himself out there, but we have to make sure we look after him as well because it’s a long season."

Despite last week's commanding performance, Carter-Vickers wasn't at his best against Slovan Bratislava, and many were speculating this was due to carrying a persistent knock, especially given he'd been seen with his leg in a cast some weeks ago. If we're honest, we'd say he'll likely play against Dortmund, but as we saw last season, Carter-Vickers' influence on the Celtic defence is massive, so we'll be hoping he can fully recover and remain in top condition throughout the season.
